There's a lot that bothers me about these revelations. First, it only bolsters my opinion that corporations are evil even if they're manned by decent folk. Business is business and that's the bottom line - humanity is out the window. ("Coalition of the Billing" - great line.)

Also, without these privatized troops, would we have enough of a presence in and around Iraq or would there be a draft already? Plus, most US companies outsource to save money. It sounds like this outsourcing effort is costing us a LOT MORE.

Further, isn't this the kind of shifty, backhanded stuff that makes us look bad in the world's eyes and undermines the potential for the U.N. to actually maintain some credibility?

Meanwhile, make sure to run your national ID badge through the reader when you get home or the DoHS will slap you with a fine for being "at large for no good reason".

Hot damn, I'm going to read Harrison Bergeron again.

It makes me wonder what kind of shit do we have these guys do that we can't ask our troops to get involved in? It allows us to say that our military wasn't involved if they get caught doing some sick shit.

Why Do I Do This?

I was originally inspired by the Web log posted on the site for Propellerhead Software. They developed a cool 808 emulator which eventually morphed into an entire digital audio workstation package (Reason). Those early posts documented their development process and gave a human insight into their struggles. It was cool. So, I bought some hosted space and figured out FrontPage to put a rudimentary site together. My goal was to connect my family, but then realized this could be a great way for me to keep track of happenings over time. Eventually, the manual, HTML journal gave way to this Blogger setup - much easier to deal with, and not bound to one computer.

Ultimately, this is more about nothing than an episode of Seinfeld, but I appreciate that you've read this far. Really.
