Why I Won't Buy Air
I wrote Basic programming code in junior high on an Apple IIe. The first word processor I used was Word Perfect on an original Mac. I saw Devin dump video (and audio) from a VCR onto his Mac A/V (80 Mhz processor!!) and learned about e-mail and ass-kicking video games on that machine.
At some point, I had a job that required me to be in front of a Windows environment all day, and so I learned it. I think I have a fairly natural propensity to pick up what the developers/engineers were trying to accomplish, in fact. In the case of Microsoft, it's frequently a big leap.
Further, I've found myself wandering into the Apple store on more than one occasion - only once accompanied by an actual Mac user. It's a shiny, bright, heavenly place.
All that said, I'm not impressed by the Mac Air. Starting at $1599, it's much more expensive (2x) than the equivalent components in a Windows machine. It doesn't have a CD or DVD drive, it has minimal connections, and it looks so thin and light that I'd certainly break it within days.
My experience has also been that locking up a Windows machine is not too hard to do. Locking up a Mac is much more difficult, but when it happens, it's much more difficult to remedy, too. After all these years, I think I'm at a spot where I don't have trouble with either machine, but I'm cheap, so I'll stick with Windows-based stuff for now.

I won't buy one, either. It has clever features like being able to "borrow" an optical drive from another computer (even one of your precious Windows machines), but it doesn't have the horsepower I need to do my day-to-day.
However... If Laura ever wants a shiny new laptop, I'd buy it for her in a second.
So it's a computer for the ladies? You hear that Old Dog? We're going shopping!!
I think they replaced the ethernet port with an elbow-moisturizer port.
I think they replaced it with a dongle.
