I've railed against the recording industry in general in a few posts and there's still the imminent chance that SomaFM, Pandora, and a number of other independent radio stations will be removed from the internets before the end of July.

Here's a way to get free music: The Internet Archives. If you haven't been through there before, I recommend digging around here for live recordings from tons of bands. Some of the groups I love or have seen recently that have entries are Mogwai, Mono, (AYWKUBT)Trail of Dead, the Butthole Surfers, and these guys (check out the engineer). It's all free and presumably legit.

Each entry has a list of information on the type of equipment used to record the show, the "lineage" (how it got from the recorder to the archive), and multiple formats to download. If you're not super savvy with downloading, there's a little player right on the page with the rest of the information. (I'm listening to it right now, in fact - Dub Trio concert from Sept. '06.)
