Killer Deals

I keep an eye on things that are on sale online. Here are two:

1. www.woot.com - 8.1 megapixel camera with 12x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. It's not a DSLR and it's not a tiny portable - it's right in between. Throw in a Schneider lens and you've got a powerhouse of a camera for $115 (shipping included). Woot sells one item per day. If it sells out by 10 AM, you're out of luck.

2. www.tigerdirect.com - Toshiba 40" 1080p LCD for $699. If those specs mean anything to you, you know this is a great price. There are three HDMI inputs, two component, RGB, plenty of audio options, and compared to our old 27" tube, it's HUGE.

Can you build a 20ft tall death robot with heat seeking capability out of them? If not, then what good are they?

No, but we could watch a movie of a 20ft death robot and capture your reaction with them. Close enough, no?

Why Do I Do This?

I was originally inspired by the Web log posted on the site for Propellerhead Software. They developed a cool 808 emulator which eventually morphed into an entire digital audio workstation package (Reason). Those early posts documented their development process and gave a human insight into their struggles. It was cool. So, I bought some hosted space and figured out FrontPage to put a rudimentary site together. My goal was to connect my family, but then realized this could be a great way for me to keep track of happenings over time. Eventually, the manual, HTML journal gave way to this Blogger setup - much easier to deal with, and not bound to one computer.

Ultimately, this is more about nothing than an episode of Seinfeld, but I appreciate that you've read this far. Really.
